Dear Target Administration,

My family and I absolutely adore Target and is our go-to retail store. You supply us with a wide variety of items to choose from, and we are incredibly grateful because it’s so close to our home.

However, it greatly upsets me that you are one of the stores that open the day of Thanksgiving during “Black Friday”, which results to shadowing the purpose of the holiday. Reminiscing into my early youth, I had great memories of my family all coming together under one roof to celebrate the holiday of being grateful, having to feast on endless amounts of food, and overall enjoying our company for this once in a year holiday. Fast-forwarding into my years of being a teen, my cousins, uncles, aunties, and even my parents’ main focus and the topic of the subject are which stores open early enough for them to shop in for “Black Friday”. The name itself stated that this day would be on a “Friday” so why are all these multi-billion companies opening on Thanksgiving night, which takes place on a Thursday? It should become a law that no stores should be opened for Black Friday until the clock officially strikes 12 AM. I understand that it’s always a competition in the business industry, and money comes into play with this situation, but it is so low for big corporations to interrupt a time with their loves ones.

From personal experience, it’s an agitating feeling to waking up with your family not present but instead scouting out locations to shop for Black Friday. I appreciate the items you sell but there is a time and place for everything, and shopping does not belong during Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
              Kaye Anne Labtingao

  1. Hi Kaye Anne. I like your topic of Black Friday. I think you need to add some statistics saying that you are not losing any money from opening on thanksgiving night and opening on Black Friday. Overall good job.

  2. I do agree with you that stores open too early. I also feel that Thanksgiving dinners should be long, enjoyable, and make families appreciate each other. I think that you should write to someone bigger, like the government because it seems like your focus is on all stores. Or, maybe you could write about how Target has particularly affected you, maybe your family waited in line instead of spending quality time. Overall, good essay.
