On a burning summer day, I did everything I can to vanish sensationing heat; sat next to the fan, stayed under something shady, and even drank lots of icy refreshing water, but NOTHING seemed to work. I was in misery, laying on the gruesome tortuous leather couch. I was on the edge of breaking, until..... my auntie came to the rescue and decided to make a delicious Filipino dessert named halo-halo. Just hearing this words instantly gave endless amount of happiness. Out of excitement, I decided to watch my auntie make halo-halo. As I scanned the kitchen, the thing that first captured my attention was the ingredients, they were: crushed ice, evaporated milk, vanilla and ube flavoured ice cream, milk flan, sweetened jackfruit, fresh sliced bananas, fresh sliced mangos, sweetened garbanzo and mungs beans, preserved coconut, pounded sweetened rice, sugar, cream of corn, and last but not least, leche flan. Those very sweet ingredients are a perfect combination for a summer treat. My auntie blended the ice and liquid ingredients together and added the other ingredients on top. The faster she finishes, the less sweat there was stippling down on my head. While she's in the making of halo-halo, I asked her some questions to keep her entertained. "Why is halo-halo special to us?", I asked." She responded with, "Halo-halo is special to us for a couple reasons, this dessseret has been eatened by our family for quite a while now, I don't have a certain year on how long, but I remember you as a child, eating Halo-Halo ever since you grew out your teeth. Also, it's a type of dish that is only made on special occasions or during a blazing hot day. It takes time to make, especially if it's a full house." I chuckled at the comment she made, about my childhood. Remenicing is always a thrill.
"Who taught you to make halo-halo?", I asked while she was in the process of chopping the bananas.
"Your grandmother. I asked her to teach me how to make this dish for the same reason why I'm currently making this for the family, the heat. Philippines can be extremely hot in the summer too. Your grandma, was too lazy to make it every summer time, so she taught me how to make halo-halo, so in the long run, I can make this delicious treat for my kids and family." Those two questions were enough for her to be finished three cups of halo-halo. Due to the state I was in, my auntie was generous enough to give me one of the first three cups of halo-halo she made. I thanked her and started gulping down this tasty dessert after mixing the ingredients together. All the sweet flavours blended in together made my taste buds insanely happy and the heat on my body magically disappeared. Halo-halo is always a the cute from summer heat madness.
I really liked how you described how much this halo halo makes you feel! And how it's important to you and family. One thing you could had added was how it tasted
